You have chosen one of the most exciting islands in the Caribbean in which to get married.  As a U.S. Territory, we enjoy the full benefits and protection of the United States.  That means that there is no language barrier and no currency to exchange.  Selecting St. Thomas as your destination wedding location, means your special day will be that less stressful for many reasons.   Following are some important details that you will need to know about getting married in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands:

Blood Test

None is required, making the process to get married that much easier.  A physical examination is not required either. 

Currency

U.S. Dollar.

Divorced

If you are a divorcee, a certified copy of the divorce decree will need to be submitted along with the Marriage Application. 

Driving

Do not be alarmed; we drive on the left!

Government Required Document

To be married on St. Thomas, you must complete an Application for Marriage License and the License and Certificate Marriage forms.  These forms must be typewritten and submitted to the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands, along with a $100 payment by check or money order. 

As part of our personalized service to you, it will be our pleasure to submit the forms to the Court.  We suggest expediting the forms to us via U.S.P.S. Express Mail at least six weeks prior to your wedding date.  This time frame will allow for Government stipulated 8-day waiting period and allow for any unforeseen delay with the court processing your application. 

When coordinating your travel plans, note that you must personally appear before the Clerk of the Court.  The hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM.  Note the holiday schedule as well to make sure you allow one full day to appear before the Clerk.  Proper identification, such as passport or driver’s license, will also be required at that time.

 

Identification

Departing the territory, you will encounter U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.  You will need to show proof of your lawful status in the United States with a federal or state identification with a photo.  This may be your passport or driver’s license with state-issued birth certificate.  Non-U.S. residents may use a passport, visa or resident card.  

Location

Our island is accessible by our airport and harbor facilities.  Major airlines such as American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Spirit, Delta, United Airlines and U.S. Airways operate to and from the continental U.S. States in times as short as a two-hour flight from Florida and a four-hour flight from New York.   We are an estimated 1,100miles south of Florida.  Our coordinates are 18.3°N and 65.0°W

Temperature

Our average temperature is 88 degrees Fahrenheit.  Although our island tends to be humid, we are often cooled by nature’s kiss – the Caribbean trade winds.

Time Zone

We observe Atlantic Standard Time (AST).  We do not observe daylight savings time.

Weather

Traditionally, hurricane season is considered during the months of June through November.  You may view the status of any pending weather conditions through the National Weather Center National Hurricane website at  www.nhc.noaa.go
